Puyallup Main Street welcomes summertime events and activities

Puyallup Main Street AssociationJune 18, 2014

The kickoff for summer has begun.

Puyallup Main Street Association’s Wednesday Sunset Market launches its presence in Pioneer Park starting tonight from 3 to 7:30 p.m. The Sunset Market will be a functioning part of the park through Sept. 17. This year we have 25 vendors selling produce, crafts and flowers. We have partnered with Anthem and included its wine tasting, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., as part of the event. What better way to “Rediscover your Wednesday”?

This is an opportunity for our downtown residents and professionals to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables during the middle of the week. There will also be live music playing on the Rotary Stage. Come join us and enjoy downtown Puyallup.

Also on the agenda this week is the 75th Meeker Days Festival, which runs this Friday through Sunday, June 22. The festival goes from noon to 9 p.m. on Friday; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We welcome our new Meeker Days’ manager, Benjii Bittle, to our team. Check out the entertainment on our website at www.puyallup mainstreet.com.

We are still looking for volunteers to help with the festival. Call us if you’d like to participate on the ground level of the festival. It takes a village to produce a great event like Meeker Days and we could use your help.

We would like to thank Johnson Jewelers for hosting PMSA’s second Downtown Meet and Greet at their store, located at 103 South Meridian. This is a new feature for our PMSA merchants and members. It’s a quarterly get-together for our members and merchants to meet their neighbors and develop community. The next one is set for 6 p.m. on Oct. 14. The location is still being determined. Postcards will be distributed downtown and listed on our website.

A special thank you goes out to all our event sponsors and Business & Occupation tax contributors. Without their contributions to PMSA, we would not be able to produce the free family events for our community and visitors. We’re a nonprofit organization and one of the 13 accredited Main Street organizations in Washington state. If you pay B & O tax, you can redirect your B & O tax to a main street organization. If you pay B & O taxes in Washington state, why not redirect those taxes toward your community? Check out the tax credit opportunities on our website. Thank you for your support.

And last but certainly not least, Puyallup Main Street Association has moved from the city’s former Community Resource Center building to the Campbell, Dille, Barnett & Smith building across the street from Pioneer Park.

Our new location’s address is 319 S. Meridian in downtown Puyallup. It’s the new home for the administration of PMSA events such as the Farmers’ Market, Meeker Days, the Sunset Market, Art and Wine Walk (Oct. 4), Trick or Treat Boo-yallup (Oct. 31), the Santa Parade (Dec. 6) and the Holiday Market (Dec. 6). We want to especially thank the city of Puyallup for supporting PMSA by leasing a portion of the CRC building to us for many years.

We look forward to hosting an open house next month in our new location. The best is yet to come.
