Drug lab explosion rocks Shaw Road area

May 28, 2014

The Puyallup Police Department and Central Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to the 1500 block of Shaw Road on the evening of May 20 after initial reports of a residential structure fire. Arriving officers discovered something unlike anything they’d dealt with before: an exploding THC/hash oil drug lab.

Further investigation found the drug lab had been set up under a tarp-style canopy when the explosion and fire occurred. Debris from the explosion was found several hundred hards from the scene. First-responders closed Shaw Road during the incident to all traffic. No one was injured. One vehicle and the home sustained significant damage.

On May 21, three suspects that had originally been arrested, were released. A fourth suspect, 20-year-old Seth Michael Cleek, was arrested and detained in the Pierce County Jail on charges of unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, five charges of reckless endangerment and one charge of reckless burning.

The cleanup at the site was assisted by the Washington State Department of Ecology Spill Response Team.

Captain Scott Engle of the Puyallup Police Department said the suspect was arraigned on Thursday.
