Hatchery foundation honored for its work

THE HERALDMay 28, 2014

The Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation is the 2014 recipient of the Educator of the Year award from the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. The nonprofit was presented the award at a banquet in Olympia on May 20.

Since its founding, the volunteer-run group has strived to restore the historic Puyallup hatchery. Over the past year, because of the nonprofit’s efforts the hatchery has been listed on the Washington State Historical Registry and the national registry. On May 10, the foundation opened its educational center at the hatchery where it hopes the public will come to learn about the history of the hatchery and the value of the watershed.
