District should be proud of achievement awards

April 30, 2014

Congratulations to the Puyallup School District for Achievement Awards given to seven of the schools. (Puyallup schools win several Washington Achievement Awards by Herald News Services, The Herald, April 16, 2014).

As a teacher for over 35 years, I know this is no easy task. One challenge is motivation. Students often have no idea of what a privilege it is to get a free education.

Perhaps researching the reasons 57 million children don’t receive an education will help them understand. Maybe they will even become advocates for these children.

Effective advocates need to read, write and speak well. A little research will bring them to the Global Partnership for Education. This multinational group is working to get all kids an education.

This work could bring motivation and possible future awards to an already great district.
