The spray pad, scheduled to open July 4 in Pioneer Park, will now not open until Memorial Day weekend in 2015 at the earliest.

Fife-based Nordic Construction came in as the only bidder on the project. The firm's bid, however, was 20 percent more than the budgeted amount for the project.

On April 8, the Puyallup City Council unanimously voted to reject the bid because it was non-competitive.

Sarah Harris, parks and recreation administrator, said the city wants to present the best product possible at the best price.

The city will solicit for new bids in late May or early June. Construction on the splash pad will begin in mid-September.
