Clark's seven goals lift Puyallup past Rogers

Vikings bounce back after two straight losses to powerhouse programs

Water polo Mariah Clark scored seven goals and the Puyallup Vikings cruised to a 16-2 victory last Wednesday against the Rogers Rams at the Puyallup High School pool.

“Mariah just had a breakout game for us from the hole-set position,” Puyallup head coach Todd Fletcher said. “Natalie Beck also had a solid game. She is the glue that holds our team together. We have so many different players who are good at different aspects of the game. We don’t have one star, but everyone is just solid.”

Fletcher said he was glad to see his Vikings (2-2) get back on track after they lost consecutive games to Curtis and Gig Harbor.

“It was a great time for us to mend a few wounds we suffered in our previous games,” Fletcher said. “It’s great for us to get back in the win column.

Puyallup is off this week due to spring break, but Fletcher said his team will be prepared for its contest against the Lakes Lancers on April 11.

“They beat us three times last year, and in every game we lost to them, it was by one or two goals,” he said. “We’re looking forward to playing them again. They have a really good program. This is a big game for us and is going to be a great battle.”
