Lepley eyeing Mat Classic state tournament

Beyond the Athlete: Emerald Ridge wrestler determined to go out strong

of the HeraldFebruary 5, 2014

Emerald Ridge wrestler Talon Lepley doesn’t want to see his season come to an end prematurely like it did last year.

Lepley, a 126-pounder who finished sixth at the sub-district tournament last season, didn’t advance to regionals as a junior. He expects that to change next month.

Lepley said she’s put in the work to give himself a chance to realize his ultimate dream.

“I did a lot of work in the offseason,” he said. “I went to the Oregon State wrestling camp over the summer. It was a really hard and tough camp. There were wrestlers there from all over the nation. I learned a lot.”

Lepley captured a come from behind victory against Puyallup’s Tyler Grajek in his most recent match on Jan. 29.

The Herald recently asked him a few questions about his life away from the mat.

The Herald: What is your favorite movie of all time?

Talon Lepley: It has to be “Step Brothers.” Will Ferrell is hilarious.

TH: Where is your favorite place to eat in Puyallup?

TL: I just recently ate at BJ’s Brewhouse. It was really good.

TH: Who is your favorite musician?

TL: Eminem. His music gets me pumped up.

TH: Where do you see yourself in five years?

TL: I hope to be working as a firefighter in Graham.

TH: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?

TL: Kate Upton. She is beautiful.
