It can be hard to find something new and different to do for the special person in your life around Valentine’s Day. Flowers, chocolates and cards may seem traditional gifts. Why not think outside the box and consider the Taste of Romance Sweetheart Wine Walk in Sumner?
The Sumner Downtown Association hosts many events each year. However, the largest and most well-attended has been the Sweetheart Wine Walk.
During the three-hour event, attendees will have an opportunity to taste more than 36 unique wines, wander through many unique shops, spend an evening with friends and enjoy great entertainment.
Back by popular demand, Act 1 Theatre Productions will enact a “mock wedding” at Van Lierop Garden Market in the greenhouse. Meet wedding guests and take your turn through the receiving line. Actors interact with our “wine walkers,” and bakers desperately try to decorate and move a cake through the downtown only to have it slip and fall to the ground.
If a mock wedding isn’t your thing, perhaps you’d enjoy another opportunity to renew your own wedding vows. Two times during the evening, you and your spouse can exchange vows in The Attic under the care of a special guest officiant.
The Attic also will present the Larry Hill Trio as additional entertainment. Band leader Larry Hill, a professional musician for more than 40 years, is a piano-bar artist at heart. The trio also includes guitar/vocalist Dave Croston and saxophone/vocalist Keith Carter. They offer a variety of music, from Ray Charles to Van Morrison, and combine it with classic contemporary songs.
The Sweetheart Wine Walk will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $20 through the day of the event. The cost includes a wine glass, a box of chocolates, six taste tickets, a raffle ticket for the gift basket raffle and a Wine Walk Passport. Extra taste tickets are $1 each.
If you’d like to make the evening a bit more special, you might select the overnight package for $150. It includes a one-night stay for two at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Sumner, complimentary shuttle service to and from the event, a bottle of champagne or sparkling cider, expanded continental breakfast and passes to the Sweetheart Wine Walk.
All proceeds support the Sumner Downtown Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 253-891-4260 or visit www.sumnerdowntown.com.Laurie Miller is the program manager for the Sumner Downtown Association.
