State Rep. Zeiger pushes aging bridges bill

January 22, 2014

State Rep. Hans Zeiger, R-Puyallup, is pushing for House Bill 2071, which would authorize expedited permitting and contracting for replacement work on the state’s structurally deficient bridges.

HB 2071 received a public hearing Jan. 14 in the House’s Transportation Committee.

Zeiger first introduced the bill last June when the Legislature was in special session.

The Puyallup River Bridge has a structural efficiency rating of two out of 100. It is prioritized for replacement, but a bridge replacement isn’t expected until late 2015.

“We shouldn’t have to wait that long to replace a bridge that is structurally insufficient,” Zeiger said.
