Sumner schools receive 2013 Innovative Teaching Grant

The HERALDDecember 23, 2013

The Sumner School District is the recipient of the 2013 Innovative Teaching Grant from the Puyallup Valley branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

This grant will be used to purchase three digital microscopes for three middle school classrooms in the Sumner School District.

This use of new digital technology, said the AAUW, will enhance science education in the middle school.

The grant is issued to educators in K-12 classrooms for innovative projects that extend classroom enrichment and instruction, provide opportunities not available with regular district funds and benefit a maximum amount of students.

Grants also are issued to projects with particular focus on assisting young women in developing increased interest and skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
