Puyallup’s Mergel places in two events

Sophomore Mackenzie Mergel placed third in the 500 freestyle and eighth in the 200 free on Saturday during the state swimming and diving championships at the King County Aquatic Center.

The Puyallup sophomore finished with respective times of 5:11.84 and 1:57.97. Vikings sophomore Lindsey Muiznieks collected a 14th-place finish in the 100 free in 54.69.

Meanwhile, the Puyallup 400 free relay team placed 10th in 3:43.71. Amy Kiuchi, Olivia Wood, Mergel and Muzniecks swam the event, and they also attained an 11th-place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:42.72.

Puyallup finished 16th as a team with 56 points.
