What is the job of a city council member? It is to serve all the city residents by assuring the services of a city are properly budgeted and operated. It is not to serve the interests of select downtown business owners, developers and their own pockets and egos.
Voters in Puyallup have the opportunity to elect council members who have the interest of all 30,000 citizens, whether it is public safety, infrastructure, utilities or recreation resources.
The past two years has seen Puyallup regularly shamed on the 11 o’clock news with one scandal after another. Whether it’s sexual harassment, the Josh Powell burial fiasco, using the police to investigate Sounder commuters or the recent bizarre phantom campaign sign theft issue. Those who cover the council follies find it has more in common with F Troop and the Jerry Springer show.
It has to stop. Puyallup deserves better.
“Cash for votes” in the Van Lierop farm development scam said it all. We need to inject some credibility back into the Puyallup City Council.
There are three candidates who are standing to change the status quo of shameful leadership on the council dais. Like most District 2 voters, I will vote for someone trustworthy who is standing for the correct reasons. That candidate is Heather Shadko.
I think you will find her representation on the council to be sound, ethical and morally decent.
