Avid runners won’t have to go very far to pick up the latest apparel.
South Sound Running, which also has locations in Tacoma and Olympia, opened its newest store July 25 at 115 S. Meridian in downtown Puyallup.
Greg Klein, the owner of all three South Sound Running stores, likes his latest location.
“We felt, to get a broader reach for our customer base, we needed something on the east side of I-5,” he said. “We wanted something centrally located between Auburn and Sumner. Puyallup was just a natural spot for us. We decided on Puyallup pretty quickly.”
Store manager Rick Bogatay said it couldn’t be more perfect.
“The location downtown on Meridian is a pretty big hotspot,” he said. “There is a lot of traffic on the road, and a lot of people can see our store, which gives us great visibility. Puyallup has a strong running community, and we’re excited about having a business here.”
The 3,000-square-foot facility already has seen a fair share of customers walk through the doors, Bogatay said.
“We’ve had a lot of people walk in and check out the store,” he said. “The majority of our customers hear about us through word of mouth. Hopefully our pricing and knowledge of our products will shine through.
“We’ve been pretty busy,” Bogatay added. “We couldn’t ask for a better start here.”
The store features a variety of shoes, including Brooks, Asics, Mizuno, Nike, Adidas and Saucony.
“We’re selective in the shoes that we carry,” Bogatay said. “We want to make sure we have the right shoes that will satisfy our customers’ needs.
“Foot shape is definitely a big part of finding the right shoe for a customer,” he said. “Some runners need more arch support than others. Everyone is different. When a customer picks out a shoe, we have them run in the store so we can see what the best shoe is for them. We look at their foot shape and how their ankles are pronated while they run. Shock absorption and stability are also very important aspects.”
The long rectangular shape of the store can help customers sample their shoes,” Bogatay said.
“We like to evaluate each shoe per fitting,” he said. “There is a lot of space in our store and a long runway in the middle so we can watch people run. We like to see how each shoe is working for them categorically and from a stability function.”
Bogatay, 26, and has been running for the past 10 years.
He believes running is one of the most applicable workout routines for anyone.
“Running is for everybody,” he said.
