The Washington State Fair and Events Center will open the gates to the Washington State Fair the morning of Friday, Sept. 6 and from 9 a.m. to noon guests will receive free gate admission with a recommended donation of non-perishable food.
Donated non-perishable food items benefit the Puyallup Food Bank.
In 2009, the Washington State Fair broke its first record in food donations. That year, the Puyallup community donated 25,000 pounds of food on opening day. This represented a one-day donation record for the Puyallup Food Bank.
In 2010 and 2011, the Fair brought in increasing amounts of food with 90,000 pounds and 160,000 pounds collected, respectively.
Last year, the Fair collected the most ever at 200,000 pounds of food.
