Arts Downtown event is April 10 at Pioneer Pavilion

Arts Downtown is hosting “Put A Little Art in Your Soul,” its annual fundraising event, at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 10.

The event takes place at the Pioneer Park Pavilion, 330 S. Meridian in Puyallup. The evening includes a no-host social hour, jazz and blues music and a soul food dinner. Proceeds from a silent auction and two live auctions will benefits Arts Downtown and the Puyallup Valley Food Bank.

Tickets are $25 each and are available at two downtown merchants, Johnson’s Jewelers and Corkscrew Cellars, as well as online at www.artsdowntown.org. It is a 21-and-older event and space is limited.

Sinfonietta performs at Pioneer Park on April 18

The Northwest Sinfonietta will be returning to the Pioneer Park Pavilion for its next show on Sunday, April 18.

The performance, “Mozart Requiem,” begins at 2 p.m. The Northwest Sinfonietta features an 80-member chorus, 40-member orchestra and four soloists. Tickets cost $30 and $25 and can be obtained by calling 1-800-888-3006 or by going online to www.nwsinfonietta.org. Tickets are also available through the Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce, Puyallup Main Street Association or Valley Arts United.

Rotary Club seeking award nominations

The Puyallup-South Hill Rotary Club invites community members to submit nominations for its fourth annual Community Vocational Recogntion Awards Program.

The awards are given to deserving leaders in business, education, government and non-government/non-profit organizations. Nominees cannot be Rotary members and preference will be given to nominees who live or work in the South Hill area.

Church hosting disease management sessions

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, located at 10510 136th St. E. in South Hill, is hosting “Living Well With Chronic Conditions,” a Stanford University-developed program, from 1-3 p.m. daily between May 3 and June 14.

Follow-up research on the program has shown participants are better able to manage symptoms and communicate effectively with doctors.

Friends of NRA hosting April 10 banquet, auction

The Mount Rainier Committee of the Friends of NRA will be conducting their 17th annual banquet and auction fundraiser at The Puyalllup Fair and Events Center on Saturday, April 10.

Doors open at 4 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. and a live auction to follow. There will be raffles and games throughout the evening. Funds raised go to support firearm safety training, hunter education and shooting sports.

Entries accepted for Meeker Days poster contest

The Puyallup Main Street Association is now accepting entries for its 2010 Meeker Days Festival poster contest.

The theme of this year’s festival is “The Spirit of Puyallup.” Entries will be accepted in all mediums and the submission deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, April 23. The winning artist receives $500 and the winning poster is widely distributed throughout East Pierce County to promote the popular festival.

Teen yoga program at the Puyallup Public Library

Staff from Yoga Soleil in Puyallup will be teaching yoga basics to anyone ages 12 to 19 at the Puyallup Public Library on Wednesday, April 21.

The program runs from 3-5 p.m. and focuses on beginner skills. Participants are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothing. The program is free but participants must register and have a parent or guardian sign a liability waiver.
