Letters to the editor

Published: March 17th, 2010 06:00 AM

The following are letters to the editor that appeared in the March 17 print edition of The Herald. To submit a letter, e-mail editor@puyallupherald.com. Please keep letters submissions to 250 words.

City didn’t go through the proper channels before criticizing newspaper’s articles

(Re: editorial, 3/3 and “Puyallup continues to cultivate open communication,” op-ed, 3/10)

Ever play Whack-a-Mole at The Fair? That fast-paced game where you pound a mole back into a hole, only to have another pop up elsewhere. After your March 3 editorial questioning the time change of Puyallup’s recent council retreat, Puyallup’s administration, without council approval, posted a defensive rebuttal on the city Web site.

At the March 9 council meeting, three council members’ scolding of the administration’s decision to post the rebuttal prompted it to be taken down the next morning.

No sooner was the rebuttal removed when another administration-initiated op-ed popped up on March 10, blasting The Herald again.

The council must have thought they were playing Whack-a-Mole after pounding down the Web site posting, only for a second rebuttal to pop up in The Herald.

Pesky varmints!

David Couch, Puyallup
