Puyallup High hosting Dallas Brass on March 19

The Dallas Brass, one of the nation’s premier musical ensembles, will be performing at Puyallup High School at 7 p.m., Friday, March 19.

Founded in 1983, the Dallas Brass use brass and percussion to perform music from many well-known composers and genres. Their symphonic credits include engagements with the Cincinnati Pops, New York Pops and six recordings.

The group will be providing a free educational workshop from 2:30-3:45 that day in the PHS auditorium. Tickets to the concert at $10 apiece and can be purchased in advanced through PHS band director Eric Ryan at ryanet@puyallup.k12.wa.us.

Riverside firefighters sponsoring dance

The Riverside Firefighters Association will be sponsoring a firefighters dance from 6 p.m. to midnight, Friday, March 27 at the Landmark Convention Center, 47 St. Helens Ave. in downtown Tacoma.

Tickets cost $25 each and are available at the Riverside fire station, 4114 56th Ave. E., or by calling 253-569-4133. A $25 ticket includes music, dinner, door prizes and drinks.

Proceeds will go to the Riverside Firefighters Association and be reinvested into the community by increasing the availability of smoke detectors and bike helmets, expanding CPR programs, financing youth activities and sponsoring less fortunate families at Christmas.

Pilgrim Lutheran Church hosts benefit concert

The Tapestry Singers, a local musical group, will host a benefit concert for the Puyallup Valley Food Bank on Saturday, March 20.

The concert takes place at 3 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 10510 136th St. E. in South Hill. Free parking is available and admission is through donations of cash or non-perishable food items.

Five separate groups will be performing: Cascade Foothills Chorale, Eventide Ringers handbell choir, Peace Lutheran Gospel Choir, Hands and Voices and the Tapestry Singers. A reception will follow the concert.

Communities in Schools hosting breakfast, auction

Puyallup’s Communities in Schools program is hosting its fifth annual breakfast and auction from 7:15-9 a.m., Thursday, March 25, at The Puyallup Fair Expo Hall.

Lyle Quasim, president of Bates Technical College, is the featured speaker and will present “Planting Seeds of Success.” The cost to attend is $50 per person or $350 for a table of eight. Parking is free and doors open at 7 a.m.

Medical explorers’ spaghetti feed unveiled

The Good Samaritan Medical Explorers club is hosting “A Night in Italy,” its 10th annual spaghetti feed from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, March 20, at Puyallup’s United Methodist Church, 1919 W. Pioneer.

Donations are accepted as admission and there will be raffle tickets sold for $1 apiece at the door. Proceeds go to the club, a Boy Scouts of America group for high school students interested in medical careers. The money will pay for textbooks, advanced first aid training and medical supplies.

Preschool mothers holding March 18 field trip

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) of Christ Community Baptist Church on South Hill will be taking a field trip to the Tacoma Art Museum beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 18. Members of the community are invited to join in.

Kids of all ages can check out “The Secret Language of Animals,” a family-friendly devotion to our furry, feathery and slimy friends, as well as the exhibition, “The Movement of Impressionism: Europe, America and the Northwest.”

Puyallup Lions’ annual Easter egg hunt is April 3

The Puyallup Lions Club is holding its annual Easter egg hunt at Clarks Creek Park at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 3.

The park is located at 14th Street Southwest and 23rd Avenue Southwest. The event is open to children 8 yeas and younger. Children will be divided into four age groups and each group will receive candy and prizes.

South Hill Mall holding free concert series

South Hill Mall in Puyallup is hosting a series of free concerts from 6:30-8 p.m. every Thursday through April 1. The concerts will take place near the lodge-style fireplace at the mall’s food court.

The concert lineup is as follows: Feb. 25, Bruce Maier, country; March 4, Jordani, pop/rock band, and featured artists from the Liberty Theater; March 11, Bill Hallett Ensemble, jazz; March 18, The Uptown 4, a capella group; March 25, Creme Tangerine, Beatles cover band; April 1, Peter Adams Jazz Ensemble.
