The Cascade Christian Cougars football team is one game away from being crowned the state champion.
All that stands in the way of the Cougars’ dream is a victory against the Connell Eagles in the Class 1A championship tilt slated for kickoff at 1 p.m. this Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
Connell and Cascade Christian both head into the contest with perfect records of 13-0 overall. It will be the second year in a row the Cougs have advanced to the state championship game. Last year the Cougars fell 10-9 against a tough Cashmere squad in the title contest.
“That game has been stuck in our minds ever since,” Creech said. “It has fueled us. We’ve worked hard all off-season to get this point (and) we want to close it out and finish the deal this time around.”
Cougars head coach Randy Davis knows how formidable of a foe Connell will be this Saturday afternoon.
“They are a solid football team who is unbeaten,” Davis said of Connell. “They have a lot of tradition and have played in big games in the past so we know they will be prepared. They have been to the finals before. I haven’t seen much of them this year but our coaching staff will get together this week to watch film of them and we’ll go from there.”
Davis knows the loss in the state title game one year ago will be on his team’s minds throughout this week of practice.
“We’ll use that as motivation this week,” Davis said. “We have another shot at it. That’s all you can ask for.”
