South Hill Rotary hosting wine, jazz event on Nov. 14

The fourth annual South Hill/Puyallup Rotary Evening of Wine and Jazz will take place from 6-10 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14.

The event will be held at the Pierce College Center Commons, 1601 39th Ave. S.E. in Puyallup. Tickets are $50 per person in advance or $75 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the rotary’s mission both locally and around the world.

The event will showcase several Italian and Washington wines, Caesar salad, breadsticks, buffet-style pasta, cheesecake and jazz music from Darren Motamedy and Brass Unlimited.

Comedy festival coming to Liberty on Nov. 19

The 30th annual Seattle International StandUp Comedy Competition returns to the Liberty Theater in Puyallup for a semifinal show at 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19.

This year’s field of comedians come from New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston, Miami, Chicago and Sydney, Australia, among other places. Representatives from most major TV networks and Hollywood agencies will be coming to Seattle to scout talent.

The show features the top 10 comedians from the earlier rounds of competition. Complete information of the event, including participant biographies, are online at www.seattlecomedycompetition.com.

Main Street accepting craft supply donations

The Puyallup Main Street Association is planning a series of free kids’ crafting workshops on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Anyone with unused craft items such as felt, ribbons, glue, beads or paints can drop them off at the Main Street office, 107 N. Meridian in Puyallup. Donations will be accepted until Monday, Nov. 30.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the workshops can contact the Main Street office at 253-840-2631.

Republicans’ club meeting is Nov. 17

The 25th District Republicans Club will meet from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Puyallup Public Library, 324 S. Meridian.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will feature guest speaker Dr. Jay Richards, a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation and a contributing editor of The American. He is also the executive producer of several documentaries and has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.

Puyallup food bank open house is Nov. 7

The Puyallup Valley Food Bank, located at 239 W. Stewart in Puyallup, will be hosting an open house event from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7. The public is welcome to attend and take part in tours, snacks and door prizes.

Anyone who is unable to attend but would like more information on helping neighbors in need can visit the food bank’s Web site at www.puyallupfoodbank.org.

Puyallup observing Veterans’ Day on Nov. 8

On Sunday, Nov. 8, a Veterans’ Resource Fair will be held at noon at the Pioneer Park Pavilion, followed by Puyallup’s annual Veteran’s Day observance at 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Puyallup Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2224, the city of Puyallup and American Legion Post 67.
