Bravo to the young women who publicly voiced opposition to bikini baristas

Puyallup bikini baristas beware: There is a marauding mess of modest teenage girls out to civilly picket your businesses.

I drove down Main Street on my way home from work and witnessed a group of modestly dressed young women protesting in front of a bikini coffee stand. They were holding signs that said in effect, “Honk for self-respect” and “Modesty is beautiful.”

They were there on their own accord, not coerced by any political party or religious agenda. They must be as tired as I am of seeing scantily-clad breasts and backsides bouncing down the sidewalk of our otherwise family-friendly town.

Once this coffee stand came under new ownership, I changed my route home to avoid the awkward questions that inevitably come from my son. The first time he asked me if he could have some “eye candy” was the last time he has seen the place. Activism and the freedom of speech are two wonderful things that go hand-in-hand, but all too often, people don’t walk the walk.

These young women are on a mission and I’m proud to have them protesting in my town. Baristas may have a right to be nearly naked in their coffee shop, but they certainly don’t have the right to be nearly naked on my sidewalk. Two words: indecent exposure.

Aho’s record on Daffodil Parade, farmers’ market speaks better than his opponent’s

To the editor,

Tony Aho, candidate for Puyallup City Council district 1, is the right person for the job.

Tony Aho values and vows to continue funding for the Daffodil Parade, Valley Arts United and the Puyallup Farmers’ Market in its present location. These are just a few of the great things that help define the city of Puyallup and Aho values and promises to keep them front and center.

George Dill is on record as voting against funding of the Daffodil Parade and Valley Arts United and proposes the Farmers Market be re-located to somewhere on River Road, moving it from the present location in Pioneer Park. Dill also voted against the new stage located in Pioneer Park where hundreds of citizens gathered this summer to enjoy concerts in the park.

A vote for Tony Aho will continue the traditions of Puyallup. A vote for Tony Aho is a vote for real life values. Vote for Tony Aho, Puyallup City Council District 1 position.

LINDA KACHINSKY, Puyallup
