Editorial: Puyallup’s high school seniors set tone for WASL

Published: June 13th, 2008 02:21 PM

Puyallup’s high school seniors are a bunch of smarty pants.

And we should be proud of them. Close to 99 percent of the 1,472 seniors in the Puyallup School District passed the reading and writing portions of the WASL. The state’s average success rate is 91 percent.

In fact, the school district ranked first for WASL scores among the state’s 20 largest districts. It was not just the district’s concentration and focus on student success that made such a large impact, but also their approach. For example, they brought in former teachers to work closely with students as specialists.

This is a great accomplishment for Puyallup’s seniors; an example future students should follow.
