If you have recently visited the Good Samaritan Hospital campus, you know it can be a challenge navigating through all the construction. In an effort to continue to exceed expectations in a hectic landscape, Good Samaritan Hospital has implemented a multitude of programs and conveniences to improve our patients’ and visitors’ experience.
Rieder Medical Building
The addition of the Rieder Medical Building to Good Samaritan’s campus has added convenience and access for patients in need of specialized services, such as Internal Medicine, Women’s Health and Neurology.
The Rieder Medical Building, located just three blocks from Good Samaritan Hospital, has inspired practices to relocate to the growing campus, allowing physicians easy access to patients that may be staying at Good Samaritan. It has also allowed for practices to grow, for example Dr. Joel Estrada and Dr. Charles Nam, Internal Medicine specialists at Good Samaritan Family Medicine at Puyallup, are now accepting new patients.
The Rieder Medical Building also houses the Good Samaritan Outpatient Laboratory, which was previously located in the main hospital. The lab can accommodate more patients, provide extended hours, including Saturdays, and offers convenient parking, one-stop registration and private rooms.
The Rieder Medical Building is also home to Dedicated Women’s Health Specialists and Neurology & Neurosurgery Associates.
Starbucks
On June 2, Good Samaritan opened a Starbucks Coffee Store. Located in the main lobby, the opening of this Starbucks location allowed Good Samaritan to bring the Starbucks experience to its customers. Patients, visitors, guests, employees and volunteers are now enjoying a beverage on-the-go, or relaxing in the coffeehouse’s comfortable seating area.
“We have more than 2,200 employees at Good Samaritan who anxiously awaited the opening of Starbucks. This is one of the many new relationships we are creating at Good Samaritan to exceed the expectations of patients and their families at a quality institution,” said John Long, Good Samaritan president. “It’s a very exciting time at Good Samaritan.”
The initial hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Emergency Department (ED) Samaritans
Good Samaritan’s current Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the state. In fact, the current facility, built in the 1950s, was designed for 25,000 annual patient visits. Last year, our clinical staff provided care to more than 60,000 patients. While Good Samaritan is working to improve that situation with the construction of a new Patient Care Tower, complete with all new Emergency, Surgery and Imaging Departments, there are some initiatives now to make the situation in our current location better for our patients and families. Our Emergency Department (ED) Samaritans are just one example.
These two staff members can be found in our Emergency Department waiting area each evening from 2 p.m. to midnight, assisting families and patients. They act as liaisons between medical staff and the family or patient; relaying information, status and support. Sometimes their care consists of good information, other times it involves making a patient or visitor more comfortable with books, games, or food.
Exceeding expectations
These are just a few ways Good Samaritan Hospital is working to exceed expectations for patients and visitors. While we know that construction, along with change can be difficult, we also know the outcome is worth the wait. We appreciate your patience.
