Rogers sophomore Keisha Mitchell already is well known sprinter throughout Washington.
Keisha, who last year advanced to state as a freshman at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, picked up right where she left off in 2007 during the 2008 season as a member of the Rogers Rams track and field squad.
Keisha competed in the 400 meters, 200 meters and 400 meter relay on May 23 and 24 in the Class 4A state track and field meet in Pasco this past weekend. She said she enjoys the atmosphere of being a member of the Rams track and field teams.
“Everyone is so nice,” Mitchell said. “We have a lot of great runners on this team who all push each other really hard in practice. I’m having a lot of fun.”
Recently, I had an opportunity to ask Keisha questions about her life outside of track and field.
Shaun Scott: What is your favorite movie of all time?
Keisha Mitchell: I don’t really have a favorite movie but I do enjoy movies that make me laugh.
SS: What’s your favorite restaurant in Puyallup?
KM: It’s Denny’s. You get a lot for a little price.
SS: Where do you see yourself in five years?
KM: Hopefully I will be in college. I’d like to study sports medicine and someday become an athletic trainer
SS: What is the last book you’ve read?
KM: Right now I’m reading “Cry the Beloved Country” in my English class. It’s a pretty interesting book. I like that it faces real events that happened in the world.
SS: Who was your idol growing up?
KM: I never really had an idol until I got to high school. My idols in sports are Alex Montgomery and Shaquana Logan (former track athletes at Lincoln High School).
SS: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?
KM: I guess I would want to go to dinner with my grandma. She lives in Ohio so I don’t get to see her very often. It would be nice to sit down and talk with her for awhile in person.
SS: Who do you want to win the National Basketball Association Championship?
KM: It doesn’t really matter to me. The team that wants it the most will win it.
