Nothing has ever gotten in Danielle Carriveau’s way. Not even being diagnosed with Type I Diabetes two years ago has slowed down Carriveau on the softball field or on the golf course.
The 17-year-old senior to be at Puyallup High School this fall takes all the obstacles that go along with being a diabetic athlete in stride. Carriveau played first base on the Vikings fastpitch team last spring and earned 43rd place at the Class 4A golf tournament one year ago.
“It was tough at first (dealing with Diabetes) but I have gotten used to it,” Carriveau said. “Now everything that goes along with it is second nature to me. When I’m playing sports my blood sugar gets low sometimes and I have to eat something to get it back up. I have a pump where I’m able to put insulin into my body when I need it.”
Recently, I had an opportunity to ask Danielle a few questions about her life outside the world of sports.
