Alex Stacy wasn’t going to let his football career come to a conclusion in high school. The 300-pound behemoth, who graduated from Rogers High School in June, will continue his football career at Butte Junior College in Northern California this fall.
Alex will compete for playing time on both the offensive and defensive line.
“Even though it’s a junior college there’s a lot of Division 1 athletes at the school,” Stacy said. “The talent level is better there than it is at the Division 3 and Division 2 level. We have four guys on the team this coming year who all had committed to Southern Florida (Division 1 school) but didn’t qualify academically so they ended up at Butte. We got eight or nine guys who had some big time looks at major colleges.”
Alex said he’s looking forward to proving himself all over again.
“At Rogers when you’re a senior you become kind of the big dog,” he said. “Now I will be starting all over again. Nobody knows me and I have to go build a new identity. I just got to prove myself. I’m ready.”
Recently, I had an opportunity to ask Alex a few questions about his life outside of the gridiron.
Shaun Scott: Who do you want to be the next president of the United States?
Alex Stacy: I’m still undecided. If I had to pick right now I guess I would go with Barack Obama. There’s a lot of things I agree with Obama on and there’s a lot of things I don’t agree with him on. I’m not really into politics that much.
SS: What will you miss most about Rogers High School?
AS: I’ll miss coming to school and seeing everybody. There’s nowhere else where you can see all your friends at pretty much the same time. I’m also going to miss Friday nights at Sparks Stadium playing football with all of my friends.
SS: What is your favorite movie of all time?
AS: It’s “Roadhouse.” Patrick Swayze is the man.
SS: Who is your favorite athlete of all time?
AS: It would have to be Julius Peppers (Carolina Panthers defensive lineman). He’s a specimen. He’s 6 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 300 pounds with a six-pack. He’s the epitome of what an athlete is.
SS: What is your favorite restaurant in Puyallup?
AS: I’m a fiend for Mexican food. I’m picking Mazatlan, I can put that down.
SS: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?
AS: I would go to dinner with both of my grandfathers. My grandfather on my mom’s side died when I was really young. I’ve never met my grandfather from my dad’s side but I’ve heard he was a really great guy. It would be great to sit down with both of them and talk.
