Rogers grappler Allan Thompson can’t wait to hit the mats for the opening practices of wrestling season this November. Thompson, who will be a senior during the 2008-09 school year, earned seventh place overall in the Class 4A weight division at the Mat Classic in the Tacoma Dome in February.
Thompson expects to perform even better in his final season on the mat this winter.
“My goal is to finish in the top three at state,” Thompson said. “I can’t wait to get started. The defending state champion in my weight class is in our league from Decatur High School. Hopefully I will get a few chances to beat him this coming year.”
Thompson said he’s willing to put in the time required to be one of the most feared grapplers in the state.
“I’m doing a little bit of everything,” Thompson said. “Right now I’m doing a ton of running and a little weight lifting.”
Recently, I had the opportunity to ask Allan a few questions about his life outside of wrestling.
Shaun Scott: What is your favorite movie of all time?
Allan Thompson: “The Goonies.” It’s a movie that was close to home. It was filmed in Oregon.

AT: My grandfather on my dad’s side. He’s hasn’t always made the right decisions but he’s taught me a lot of things over the years.

AT: Hopefully by then I will be through with college. Right now I still haven’t decided what I want to major in.

SS: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?
AT: My great-grandmother. She passed away 15 years ago when I was 2 years old. I’ve never met her. It would be nice to sit down and talk with her.
SS: Who is your favorite team in the National Football League?
AT: The Seahawks. Lofa Tatupu is my favorite player. One of my friends played in a fund raiser softball game with him. After the game was over Lofa gave my friend his necklace. That’s pretty awesome.
