Mia Korum’s hardwork at the Puyallup Basketball Academy paid off.
Korum captured a first place trophy in the girls 11-year-old free-throw state competition in Yakima in late April by nailing 21 of 25 free throws. The second place finisher hit 17 of her free throws.
Things didn’t start off very well for Korum as she missed her first four attempts.
“She missed the first four but then she made 21 straight,” Korum’s father Billy Korum said. “I think on the first few she was pretty nervous but after that I don’t think she was even hitting the rim too much. It was swish, swish and swish. She was pretty excited about doing that.”
Korum polishes her shooting abilities at the Puyallup Basketball Academy on a regular basis.
“We’re down at the academy three to five days a week and she just loves basketball,” Billy Korum said. “When she first started playing three years ago she didn’t have much interest. As she improved, she liked it more. She went from being okay to being really good.”
